About us
The Small Institute of the Polish Language "Poloniusz" in Edinburgh is a project of the Polish Cultural and Educational Association. Adama Mickieiwcza in Edinburgh, which was established in May 2016.
The Association is a social organization whose aim is to promote Polish culture, historical traditions, language and customs, as well as the integration of Poles in Edinburgh and Scotland. In addition, the Association also directs its attention to young and youngest Poles, hence the idea of creating a Polish school to provide the young generation with knowledge about the country they come from in their native language through reliable education.
The Small Institute of the Polish Language "Polonius" began to be formed in June 2016, so that teaching could begin in September. At the beginning, only three teachers worked at the school, but from year to year the number of students and teachers increased.
Teaching at Poloniusz is based on the Core Curriculum for Polish students studying abroad and on own materials created by our teachers. When teaching Polish, history and catechesis, we use textbooks used by teachers in Poland and our own materials.
We try to ensure that the level of teaching in our school is high enough. We assign students to particular classes based on their Polish language level. The classes are well thought out and composed in such a way as to encourage students to learn, taking into account the fact that these are additional classes for our students.
In addition to teaching the native language in speech, writing and reading, we also try to refer to the customs and culture of our country, hence various types of meetings and academies in which our students take an active part. So we celebrate November 11, Christmas, Easter, May holidays, etc. Thanks to this, students learn Polish songs and poems, songs and carols, and also know the customs that accompany various holidays.
